I found myself call’n ‘Friends,
from ‘Way-Back-When’,
before the memories FADE-OUT:
But, these Friends,
like Music-Trends,
Sho’ Nuff-
Done PLAYED-OUT.

I found myself prob’n ‘The Past’,
& all the Places-
I used to HANG-OUT.
But ‘The Times’,
all in my mind,
couldn’t last, & ‘The Past’?
Sho’ Nuff-
Done PLAYED-OUT.

I found myself HELP’N-OUT,
folks to get ahead.
Had it ALLLLLL LAID-OUT.
But when it’s ALL done & said-
Whatever I PAID-OUT,
Just wasn’t enough.
STRAIGHT-OUT:
That Bull-Jive,
Sho’ Nuff-
Done PLAYED-OUT!

I found myself,
try’n to find myself-
A WAY-OUT.
But there WAS no WAY-OUT.
Guess it took-
A TIME-OUT to FIND-OUT,
What   Iz &- Izn’t,
Done PLAYED-OUT.
